Circle Up: Interdisciplinary Iteration

CLASS DESCRIPTION

Looking for a low pressure way to get into your body through movement or sound, participate in group creativity and/or share knowledge? Check out CSD’s newest iteration of “Circle Up!”

Organized in collaboration with sound artist Matthew Daher, this interdisciplinary edition of Circle Up is for dancers and musicians who want to be nourished by collective practice; a dance and music space where the direction of the session is guided by all the participants. Each session will begin by assessing the needs and knowledge the participants bring to the space. The participants will then decide together how to move and/or make sound together; sharing exercises, improvisational structures, theories, phrase work and time. Meant to blend low key group sonic exploration with the vibes of the pre/post technique class sharing that we dancers all miss, we hope to reimagine that comfortability in this collective space. Bring your favorite exercises, questions, prompts, and readings, and let’s move and make sound!

About Matthew Daher: Matthew Daher is a Detroit-based Musician, Multimedia Artist, and Counselor/Expressive Arts Therapist. His work is an exploration of mental health, masculinity, spirituality, empathy, and healing. His practices are informed by 15 years of experimentation in ambient, electroacoustic, jazz, hip-hop, and folk music, meditation practices, and Authentic Movement. He is currently an Artist in Residence at Spread Art and a Modern Dance Accompanist at Wayne State University
