Maddy Petz is a Detroit-based performer, choreographer, and teacher with a BFA in Dance from Wayne State University. She has been dancing nearly her entire life and has always maintained an energetic, vibrant, presence on and off the stage. Currently, she performs with Take Root Dance, teaches at Kercheval Dance, and coaches the Grosse Pointe South Dance Team. She continuously creates and presents her original work in the Detroit area, with her latest production “A ‘Pretty. Odd.’ Experience” premiering at Andy Art Center in 2022. Throughout her career, Maddy has received two Copperfoot Awards for her choreography, in addition to being a runner-up for the Maggie Allesee Choreography Award. Her extensive background in contemporary and modern dance, and her passion for musical theater, all come to the forefront in the execution of her artistic vision. Maddy is also the Artistic Director of étude, a non-profit production company that provides the tools necessary for project-based performers and creators to produce their own work at a professional level.
Class Description: The class will begin with an energizing warm-up, bringing us into the present moment and finding a collective breath. Together, we will move and groove across the floor through progressions that combine elements of jazz and contemporary dance, focusing on finding both specificity and cathartic release. Ending with a full-out, fun movement phrase, we will leave feeling sweaty and rejuvenated!
